7 Surprising Foods That Can Affect Your Vagina

Many people may already know that certain foods can affect  your body odor (hello garlic breath). But although we often worry about how food affects our breathing or sweating, we never really stop to think about how what we eat might affect our vaginas. How is mine? Certain foods can cause odors or yeast infections. So, it’s important to be aware of it to keep your reproductive system happy and healthy. Without further ado, I’ll introduce you to  seven surprising foods that can affect your vagina.

Wine

We all like to have a drink or two every now and then. But people who already suffer from vaginal dryness can avoid overusing it as it can make their condition worse. Alcohol can dry out the body, making it unable to produce enough vaginal lubrication. It’s  important to note that regular heavy drinking can lead to problems with libido and sexual function as well as sleep.

Sugary foods

Eating foods  high in sugar can increase your risk of  yeast infections. Having too much sugar that the body cannot eliminate causes the sugar to seep into the blood, flow throughout the body and into the vagina. Yeast is attracted to heat, moisture and sugar. So eating sugary foods, especially if you’re in a hot environment or if you’ve recently exercised and are wearing damp clothes, can significantly increase your risk of getting a yeast infection.

Onions

There are a few facts we already know about onions:

they make you cry and you shouldn’t eat them on a first date. But is there something we don’t know? Many foods that cause bad breath can also make your vagina smell bad. Eating this spicy vegetable can give  your urine a similar foul smell. While eating a few onions may not make  a big difference, eating a lot of onions can have a negative impact on your vagina.

Asparagus

You may have heard that asparagus can affect the smell of your urine and sometimes even give it a greenish color. But it can also temporarily affect the pH of the vagina, causing an unpleasant odor. Although eating asparagus is not harmful to your body, you should avoid eating it if you are concerned about the smell or taste of your vagina.

Broccoli

They always tell us to eat  broccoli, but they never explain that it will make our vagina smell! Broccoli itself is often considered a rather stinky vegetable, so it’s no surprise that it can cause  a similar odor in your vagina. And while you shouldn’t completely eliminate nutrient-rich vegetables from your diet, you might want to skip the broccoli  before  date night!

Fried Foods

While eating the occasional French fry won’t be too detrimental to your vaginal health, eating too much  fatty food will. In addition to causing  odor, eating fried or fatty foods can cause bacterial vaginosis, a vaginal infection that can cause unusual discharge, itching, and a foul odor.

Cheese

Many people have problems with consuming dairy products, but few talk about the negative impact it can have on your vagina. Eating too much cheese can disrupt the bacteria in your vagina, disrupting your pH balance, like many  other foods on this list. If you want to snack on cheese daily, try combining it with water or other foods that don’t negatively affect your vaginal pH. You can also try replacing cheese with yogurt that is rich in probiotics or bacteria and yeast that are actually good for the body.

While it’s not necessary to permanently eliminate these foods from your diet, you should try to eat them in moderation for the overall health of your vagina. If you experience an unpleasant odor or  vaginal discomfort that doesn’t go away with changes to your diet, you should talk to your doctor.
