13 Characteristics that tell you that a Miniature Pinscher is original.

The Miniature Pinscher is a German breed dog that is the product of a miniaturization of the German Pinscher. This little fellow was originally used for hunting birds, especially wild birds, but now it is usually a very affectionate companion pet with the people who are part of its family. The American Kennel Club (AKC) considers it a fearless, fun-loving and proud little dog, which has a personality bigger than its size. If you want to learn how to identify it, we tell you 13 characteristics that indicate that a Miniature Pinscher is original, with information obtained from the United Kennel Club (UKC).

Characteristics of the Miniature Pinscher

According to the official standards maintained by UKC experts to classify purebred dogs, these are the most distinctive characteristics of the Miniature Pinscher dog that can help you identify if it is original:

It measures between 25.4 and 31.7 cm in height at the withers (from the ground to the shoulders) and weighs between 3.6 and 4.5 kg.

2. Narrow, tapering head, well balanced and in proportion to the body. It has a flat skull that narrows in width towards the muzzle.

3. Slightly arched, muscular and curved neck that blends smoothly into the shoulders. It is in proportion to the head and body.

8. Front legs with very well developed bones and small joints. Seen from the front, they are straight and erect. The elbows are close to the body, with strong and perpendicular pasterns.

9. Hind legs with strong thighs. Seen from behind they are straight and parallel, but seen from the side they have an angulated appearance with well defined knees and well separated and short hind pasterns.

10. The feet of all four legs are small, cat-like, and have strong, well arched and closely knit toes. They have deep pads and thick nails.

11. Tail set high and held erect.

12. Short, smooth, harsh, straight and lustrous coat that clings closely to the body and covers it evenly.

13. It can come in colors such as black, chocolate, blue and fawn, all with rusty markings on the cheeks, lips, lower jaw, throat, a couple of spots over the eyes and chest, on the lower half of the front legs, on the inside of the hind legs and in the cloaca region, on the lower part of the hind pasterns and on the feet. But it can also be solid colored as light red, or a deer red (with a mixture of black hairs).

As a curious fact about the breed, Miniature Pinscher dogs have a life expectancy ranging between 12 and 16 years, according to AKC experts, but with proper care, such as proper feeding, regular deworming, complete vaccination schedules, constant veterinary checkups, flea and tick treatments, general hygiene, moderate exercise, positive training, among other attentions, it can be extended for many more years.
